All of my sports teams suck...except for 1
So over the past two years, my sports teams, which I consider to be a reflection of who I am, have sucked. Maryland football has, for the past two seasons, failed to make a bowl game due to a 5-6 record both years. Maryland Men's basketball has failed to make the NCAA tourney for the past two years, not even winning the NIT last year and losing to a crappy MAAC team in the first round this year. The Orioles have sucked since 1998 and haven't been to the playoffs since 1997, when they lost to Cleveland in the ALCS. The Orioles were in first for most of the first half last year and then had one of the worst implosions of a team I've ever seen. Not only did we stop winning, but Palmerio tested positive for roids, Tejada was said to have been giving Palmerio B12 shots, B-Rob broke his arm, our coach was fired...it was bad. And the Ravens have also sucked. We had no O-line last year, Boller got hurt (but I promise you, he will be an all pro QB…okay, laugh now, but mark my words), Ray Ray has had behind the scenes issues, Ed Reed was hurt, and the team ended with a 6-10 record, the worst season record under Billick.
Many things have gone wrong in my life since this past summer. I had to graduate from college, which I didn't want to do, my Dad was sick, my grandmother was sick, and I broke up with my girlfriend of 3 years. Normally, when times were bad, I always had my sports teams to fall back on. But, even they have failed me and often caused me to become even more upset.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not sitting around depressed - I have great friends, awesome co-workers ( I saw co-worker, but I really mean friends who I happen to work with), a great family. There is one team that has helped me get through it all - allowed me to express my sports energy in a positive way - The Maryland Women's basketball team. Tonight, for the 2nd time this season, they beat the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, handing them only their 2nd loss of the season, and advancing Maryland to the National Championship game on Tuesday. People (my roommates mostly) hate women's basketball and even go so far as to say it's not really basketball. But they fail to reaslize that the women's team isn't full of assholes like the Men's team is. Having the opportunity to travel with both teams (men's and women's), the women's team is nice, friendly. The men's team is just worried about how big their NBA contract is going to be once they leave Maryland. So I respect the women's team alot more. They are playing basketball for the love of the game, not to be an NBA star.
