Baltimore City cops are assholes with a badge and gun
Below, find my letter to the Baltimore Sun about an incident that occurred last evening.
Hello,
My name is David Tucker. I have a news story I would like to share with the Baltimore Sun.
Last Evening, my sister was at the Iguana Cantina bar in downtown with a group of friends. While at the bar, a situation arose in which Baltimore City police officers were called to the location. My sister and her friends had no involvement with that situation.
When arriving, the police officers who were dispatched to the scene clearly had a sort of "crack some skulls," power trip agenda. Upon arriving, the officers, which understandably might have to use force when addressing this situation, became out of control and started targeting people not involved in the altercation in which they were dispatched. Police officers began using excessive and unnecessary force on this bystanders, for apparently no reason, (again, this force was used on people not involved in this altercation). Officers were throwing people to the ground, using tazers on people, and holding tazers in people's faces for something as little as crying, saying they'd use the device on them if they didn't shut up. Additionally, the officers targeted people who were trying to video tape the situation on their cell phones or other recording devices, often issuing threats to arrest people and even using force to push people against walls and ordering them to stop recording. Several people not involved in the incident were arrested for charges of which we're not aware. The officers continued to be jerks and withheld information from friends not involved in the situation including not discussing why their friends were arrested and not saying where their friends were being taken. Shockingly, one office, who was standing near my sister and her friends after the arrests occurred and acting like a jerk and not revealing any information, had a 100% attitude change once he realized my parents were coming to pick up my sister, probably realizing my parents would be much more likely to question these police tactics than the people involved in this incident would.
I'm not sure if the Sun could launch an investigation into this or could do an overall story on the Baltimore City police department's reputation of using excessive and unnecessary force, but I think people should at least be alerted to how this agency handles situations like this. How can you expect people to want to go into this city when people have to not only worry about crime, but also have to worry the people that are suppose to provide safety and protect violating their rights?
I'd be happy to provide further information regarding this event last evening, including providing contact information from witnesses who were present at the event.
